How Safe Is Your Dog?

September is a great month for an annual safety check. Is your backyard secure? Does your dog have fresh water inside and outside? Check how well the leash and harness are holding up. Have a dog first-aid kit in your home for minor injuries. Take some time to make sure you have your vet’s phone number in your phone and that you can find it easily if you’re under stress. Pet injuries can occur anytime and anywhere. Make emergency preparations for your pet while you’re making plans for your family in case of an evacuation or fire. Create a “canine” go-bag with food and medications your pet may need. Identify a couple of dog-friendly hotels and know your local pet hotel in case you need to stay somewhere else for a couple of days. Being prepared can help reduce your own anxiety, which in turn reduces your dog’s stress.

Humans often put off going to the doctor for their own annual checkup because they are human. Your dog needs a yearly appointment with the vet for a well-being checkup.
