Each year, 3.2 million animals are adopted from shelters throughout the United States. November 1-7 is National Animal Shelter and Rescue Appreciation Week, which recognizes the important work that shelters and rescuers do to help save lives.

We are celebrating National Walk Your Dog Week from October 1st through the 7th! The focus of this fun celebration is for you to improve the well-being and health of your pups by taking them outside for a daily walk.

It is day 2 of National Pet Week, and the perfect time to talk about socialization! For a happy, healthy, and well-adjusted pet, socialization is a must. Fortunately, it is also fairly easy to accomplish. For best results, start early while your pet is still quite young, if possible.

April 14th is National Dolphin Day. In Hawaii, we are fortunate enough to have eight species of Nai’a that call our ocean waters home. Standing on the shore, you are most likely to spot the spinner, but the bottlenose, spotted and rough-toothed are also common.

National Beach Day is August 30. With the sun out and the waves gently lapping at the shore of beaches all around Hawaii, it’s a fantastic time to get outdoors with your companion and head to the beach for some fun!

December 4 is World Wildlife Conservation Day, a day dedicated to helping maintain the beautiful wildlife in our local areas as well as in the wider world. Wildlife conservation is an important aspect of being mindful of the environment as a whole.

Did you know that the American Kennel Club recognizes September as Responsible Dog Ownership Month? This AKC annual observance is a reminder that in exchange for the joy, comfort and security dogs provide, humans have many obligations to their faithful companions.
